I've died and gone to hummus heaven. And curry and bread and dukkah and cheese. Oh, and the WINE!!!! Especially the wine! We are enjoying some fantastic food and "pub grub". We have tried Indian, Turkish, Thai and of course some terrific fresh seafood. The most unexpected surprise so far has been the Turkish food. The fresh feta and the wonderful breads! Then I discovered Thai food in Christchurch that was unbelievable!
We are in Dundedin today. The drive in yesterday was incredible as we left the Canterbury plains and slowly drove south on SH1 from Timaru along the coast and arrived in Dundedin about 2 pm yesterday. We are in a terrific hotel within a quiet spot in town and the weather has been "unusually sunny" as they are telling us. We spent our afternoon yesterday riding the double-decker bus and then walking to some of the sites along the tour. This town is very hilly and nicely green. So it seems that we are in a bit of a rainbelt, but we are enjoying the sun and warm breezes as we sightsee. We drove out to the Otago penninsula this morning and then walked a little. When we returned, our motel hosts had moved us to a larger nicer room. They also have provided me with a laptop computer and so I am blogging while doing the laundry! Always laundry to do! I do have to admit that by the time we get home, the clothes we are wearing will be worn out.
A couple of days ago, last Thursday to be exact, we drove from Christchurch to the Port of Lyttleton (pronounced littleton)and it was such a beautiful day(34C/98F)that we decided to take the harbour cruise to see the Hector Dolphins. They are the smallest dolphins in the world and only found in southern waters. The boat was very nice and we sailed for a couple of hours. We got to the mouth of the harbour and the wind really picked up, but the dolphins gave us a terrific show. I tried to get some pictures, but can't seem to get them from my camera so you will have to take my word for it. I was concentrating on capturing the little guys and standing upright on the boat's upper deck when the wind picked up and my hat (sorry Judy) went flying! So, it seems that Hector now has a hat! We had a wonderful day and it was really fun to be on the water.
We are loving the people in this country and the pace of living. We should finish our complete tour of both islands by the end of the month and then we have to decide what island will be our home for the month of February. Everywhere we have been has been so great, it will be a difficult choice. I'm going to leave you now in this truly and lovely Scottish town. We are well and hope this finds all of you that way.

Hi Joyce: Enjoyed the newest blog. It sounds like you guys are in a really beautiful part of the country. 98 degrees! Yikes. That's hard to imagine since we're enduring an extremely snowy and cold winter so far here in Wenatchee. It just keeps on snowing about every 6-7 days. We're up to about 10 inches on the ground so far and it's been white around here since Thanksgiving. I'm so happy you're staying on holiday through February. You're not missing anything here...but then you knew that. Timing is everything as they say.

Ahhh. For a moment I could almost taste the sauvignon blanc and feel the warmth on my face. Or, maybe I've zipped my fleece top too tight! Low temp forecast at 8 degrees tonight. At least we're getting sunshine to ease the chill.
